Spiders Bats & Bones Oh My!!

Some of my favorite classroom moments start with a simple invitation to play. A few boxes, spider rings, and a place to pretend became opportunities to ask questions, build together, and try something new. This week, we followed that curiosity into spiders, bats, and bones—and had plenty of fun along the way!

Bats

Simple boxes became bat caves as the children pretended to be bats, created stories, and made room for friends. Musical bats got us moving as we spread our wings, flew with the music, and stopped when it paused. Together, these activities encouraged imagination, cooperation, listening, and body control.

Bones

Our X-ray pretend play invited children to become doctors, patients, and helpers while exploring what’s underneath our skin. We felt for bones, bent our elbows and knees, and talked about how bones, muscles, and joints help us move. Bone art extended our discoveries as children arranged pieces into their own skeletons and designs, building fine motor skills and creativity.

Spiders

Spider ring roll-and-stack gave us practice counting and carefully balancing—with plenty of chances to rebuild! Our spiderweb escape challenged children to stretch, bend, and plan their movements, while building and balancing spiders encouraged them to test ideas and solve problems. So much learning came from trying, adjusting, and trying again!
